Let \(G= G_1\oplus\cdots\oplus G_r\) be a nilpotent Lie group and let \(a\) be a symbol satisfying \[ | D^\alpha a(\xi)|\leq c_\alpha m(\xi) g(\xi)^{-\alpha}, \] where \(m\) is a certain weight and \[ g(\xi)^\alpha= g_1(\xi)^{\alpha_1}\cdot\dots\cdot g_r(\xi)^{\alpha_r} \] with \[ g_k(\xi)= \Biggl(1+ \Biggl(\sum^r_{j=k+1} |\xi_j|^2\Biggr)^{1/2}\Biggr)^{1/2}. \] The author proves a composition theorem and an \(L^2\)-boundedness result for the operator \(f\mapsto f* A\), \(A^\wedge= a\). These results improve earlier results of Howe and Manchon and point in the direction of Howe's conjecture.
