Consider a space \(Z\) where the group \(G\) acts and consider the space of functions \(L_2(Z)\). The group \(G\) acts on this space. A subrepresentation in \(L_2(Z)\) is called tempered representation, if its matrix coefficients satisfy a certain moderate growth condition. The tempered embedding theorem [\textit{R. P. Langlands}, Math. Surv. Monogr. 31, 101--170 (1989; Zbl 0741.22009)] states in the case \(Z=G\) the following: Every irreducible tempered representation \(\pi\) is induced from discrete series, i.e. there is a parabolic subgroup \(P \subset G\) with Langlands decomposition \(P =MAN\), a discrete series representation \(\sigma\) of \(M\) and a unitary character \(\chi\) of \(A\) such that \(\pi\) is a subrepresentation of \(\operatorname{Ind}_P^G(\sigma\otimes \chi\otimes 1)\). In the present paper the case when \(Z\) is a real spherical space is considered. These are spaces of type \(Z=G/H\) such that ``minimal parabolic subgroups of \(G\) admit open orbits''. One of the main results of the paper under review is the following. For a particular class of real spherical spaces said to be of wave-front type (see their definition in [\textit{F. Knop} et al., J. Funct. Anal. 271, No. 1, 12--36 (2016; Zbl 1342.22035)]) a tempered embedding theorem is proved. Also for this class of spherical spaces and for another class of real spherical spaces called absolutely spherical (these are real spherical spaces obtained by taking real forms of complex spherical spaces) estimates for the generalized matrix coefficients are given.
