A function f(x) is called absolutely monotonic on an interval (a,b) if \(f^{(i)}(x)\geq 0\) on (a,b), \(i=0,1,2,... \). The authors prove the absolute monotonicity of various expressions involving the Bessel function \(J_{\nu}(x)\) of the first kind. Their results generalize some results of \textit{R. B. Paris} [SIAM J. Math. Anal. 15, 203-205 (1984; Zbl 0536.33006)]. The main tools used in the proofs are the infinite product formula \[ 2^{\nu}\Gamma (\nu +1)J_{\nu}(x)=x^{\nu}\prod^{\infty}_{k=1}[1-x^ 2/j^ 2_{\nu \quad k}],\quad \nu >-1 \] and the expression \[ J_{\nu +1}(x)/J_{\nu}(x)=2x\sum^{\infty}_{1}(j^ 2_{\nu k}-x^ 2)^{- 1},\quad \nu >-1, \] where \(j_{\nu k}\) is the k-th positive zero of \(J_{\nu}(x)\).
