This paper deals with some geometrical aspects of the deformation in a continuous body. Starting from the additive decomposition of the deformation gradient into symmetric and orthogonal transformations (which are called the strain tensor and the rotation tensor, respectively) the author characterizes these transformations for homogeneous deformation processes: uniaxial extension, pure shear, etc..
