Section 1 and the first part of section 2 of this paper give background material on contact Lie groups and on the notion of a \textit{filiform} Lie algebra and Lie group. Relating contactization and symplectization the authors show that the quotient of a contact filiform Lie group by its center is a symplectic filiform Lie group and conversely from a symplectic filiform Lie group a contact filiform Lie group can be constructed. The authors also give a necessary and sufficient condition for a filiform Lie group to posses a left invariant contact form and show that such a form is unique up to a nonzero scalar multiple and has a simple expression in terms of an adapted basis. Section 3 of the paper gives a classification of all nilpotent symplectic Lie algebras of dimension \(\leq 6\).
