Let \({X\subset\mathbb{R}^d}, {d\geq1}\) be a compact set and \(\{\varphi_j\}_{j=1}^n, n\in\mathbb{N}\) be a finite set of contraction maps on \(X\). Following \textit{J. Hutchinson} [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 30, 713-747 (1981; Zbl 0598.28011)], let \({J\subseteq X}\) be the unique nonempty compact set such that \({J=\bigcup_{j=1}^n\varphi_j(J)}.\) The main goal of the article is the introduction of the super separation condition which helps to compute the \(h\)-dimensional packing measure of \(J\) with \({h<1}\). This condition means that for all \({1\leq j\leq n}\) \[ \mathrm{diam}\,\varphi_j(J)\leq\min_{1\leq i\leq n, i\neq j}d_{inf}(\varphi_j(J),\varphi_i(J)), \] where \(d_{inf}(\varphi_j(J),\varphi_i(J))=\inf\{|x-y|: x\in\varphi_i(J),y\in\varphi_j(J)\}.\) The author applies this approach to calculate the packing measure of super separated Cantor sets (see also [\textit{D.-J. Feng} Math. Nachr. 248--249, 102--109 (2003; Zbl 1015.28008)]), for Sierpinski \(N\)-gons in the plane (see also [\textit{M. Llorente} and \textit{M. Moran} Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 36, No. 5, 1534--1556 (2016; Zbl 1355.28016)]) and Sierpinski simplexes. The author conjectures that the approach also holds in the case \(h=1.\)
