    The authors prove a theorem on the occurrence of Poincaré-Andronov-Hopf bifurcation in the third-order differential equation \[ \dddot{x}+\omega^2 \dot x=\mu [f_x(x,\dot x) \dot x+ f_{\dot x} (x,\dot x)\ddot{x}], \quad f(x,\dot x)\in C^r,\;r\geq 3, \] and study its homoclinic orbits. The results obtained are compared with those published by \textit{B. Mehri} and \textit{M. Niksirat} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 261, No. 1, 159--167 (2001; Zbl 0995.34030)].
