The authors study solutions of some classes of elliptic and parabolic equations of the form \[ A_{ij} (x,u)u_{,ij} +B_\alpha (x,u)u_{,\alpha} +g_{ij}(x,u, \partial u, \partial^2u) u_{,i} u_{,j}=0 \] or \[ A_{ij} (x,t,u) u_{,ij} + B_\alpha (x,t,u)u_{,\alpha} + g_{ij} (x,t,u, \partial u, \partial^2 u)u_{,i}u_{,j} =c(x,t,u, \partial u) u_t, \] in a semi-infinite cylinder with a general cross section, subject to homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions on the lateral sides of the cylinder. The index \(\alpha\) denotes the cross-sectional space variables, the symmetric matrix \(A_{ij}\) is assumed to be uniformly positive-definite, and \(B_\alpha\), \(g_{ij}\) are assumed to be bounded. Exponential decay estimates for the solutions are proven. The class of equations is wide enough to contain, for example, steady and unsteady nonlinear heat equations for materials that may be anisotropic. For equations in simplified form sharper decay estimates are given.
