Many problems of the stability theory of nonconservative systems reduce to the investigation of the behaviour (for \(t\to \infty)\) of the solutions to the equation (1) \(\dot u=Fu\), \(u(0)=u_ 0\). In the engineering literature \(\epsilon =\sup \{Re \lambda,\lambda \in \sigma(F)\}\) is calculated, \(\sigma\) (F) being the spectrum of the operator F, for establishing the stability of the solution to the equation (1). But this way is not always true in the infinite dimensional case. This article is devoted to the foundation of such an approach in the infinite dimensional case.
