The authors are concerned with the modeling of a flow through a 3D symmetric domain with respect to \(z\)-axis. They use cylindrical coordinates, reduce the dimension of the problem and provide a weak form of the respective Stokes axisymmetric problem. For the Taylor-Hood type finite element solution of this problem they prove the existence, uniqueness as well as a priori error estimates. Some technicalities required by the proofs of these results, such as the approximation properties of the Lagrange interpolation operator and the Clément operator are also carried out. However, no numerical experiments are reported.
