The author investigates the following problem in a bounded domain \(\Omega \subset \mathbb R^N\): \(-\Delta u=\lambda a(x)u^q+b(x)u^p\), \(u\geq 0\), \(u\neq 0\), \(u| _{\partial \Omega }=0\). Here, \(0\leq q<1<p<2^*-1\), \(2^*=2N/(N-2)\) if \(N\geq 3\) and \(2^*=\infty\) if \(N=2\). Some further assumptions on the growth of \(a\) and \(b\) are imposed. It is allowed that the nonlinear term changes sign. The author investigates the combined effect of the convex and concave nonlinearity on the number of solutions for the problem under consideration. With the aid of the Nehari manifold, it is shown that the problem considered has at least two solutions. The results obtained by the author improve the known ones.
