Let \(S\) be a numerical semigroup spanned by finitely many positive integers with finite complement in \(\mathbb N\). It is well known that its Hilbert series \(H(S,z)\) can be expressed as a rational function whose numerator provides degrees of syzygies and Betti numbers for \(S\). \(S\) is said to be symmetric whenever \(\{h\not\in S\mid f-h\not\in S\}=\emptyset\), \(f\) being the Frobenius number of \(S\) and, in this case, \(H(S,z)+H(S,z^{-1})z^f=0\). This paper deals with a type of numerical semigroups close to being symmetric, which are named almost symmetric numerical semigroups, providing the duality relation for their Hilbert series. Also, for these semigroups, a one-to-one map between the multiset of degrees of the syzygy terms and the multiset of gaps, generators and their linear combinations is given. Finally, the minimal generating set for almost symmetric semigroups of maximal embedding dimension is studied by applying the duality relation.
