The article contains two parts. The first part is essentially a survey on results that are known about the question how the ratio \(\displaystyle\frac{K_\Omega}{S_\Omega}(z,z)\) of the Bergman and the Szegő kernels behaves on a bounded pseudoconvex domain \(\Omega\) with a \(C^2\)-boundary, under reasonable assumptions on the behavior of the sublevel sets of the pluricomplex Green function. \smallskip The second part (section 4) is a survey on the relationship between the growth exponents of the Bergman and Szegő kernels and geometric boundary invariants of a smooth bounded domain as the D'Angelo type numbers, the entries of the Catlin multitype and the distance of the Newton polytope (as studied by \textit{J. Kamimoto} [Math. Z. 246, No. 3, 405--440 (2004; Zbl 1047.32004)] for domains of the form \(\Omega=\big\{(z,w)\in {\mathbb C}^n \times {\mathbb C} \,\,| \, \text{Im\,} w > \rho (z)\big\}\), with some special plurisubharmonic function \(\rho\)).
