From the text: ``Aufbauend auf einer Darstellung der Entwicklung der Reduktionstheorie positiv definiter quadratischer Formen und insbesondere erster geometrischer Ansätze bei C. F. Gauß und G. L. Dirichlet wird in dieser Untersuchung der Inhalt der Probevorlesung H. Minkowskis diskutiert und in seinen entwicklungsgeschichtlichen Zusammenhang eingeordnet. Neben einer kurzen Skizze der wissenschaftlichen Arbeit Minkowskis bis zum Jahr 1887 wird auch das Habilitationsverfahren Minkowskis an der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelm-Universität dokumentiert''.
