The paper under review concerns the following hydrodynamic semiconductor model: \[ \begin{aligned} n_{t}+ (nv)_{x}& = 0,\tag{1}\\ (nv)_{t}+ (nv^{2} + p)_{x} & = -nF - \frac{nv}{\tau_{p}},\tag{2}\\ W_{t}+ (vW + vp)_{x} & = -nvF + (\kappa T_{x})_{x}- \frac{W-W_c}{\tau_w},\tag{3}\\ F_{x}& = -n -n_{d}(x).\tag{4}\end{aligned} \] Here \(n,v,W\) and \(F\) are the unknown functions, \(\kappa, \tau_{p}\) and \(\tau_{w}\) are constants, and \(n_{d}(x)\) is a given function of the space variable \(x\); \(p=knT (k=\)Boltzmann constant). Equ. (3) is restated in terms of \(n,v\) and \(T\). This system is completed by initial conditions \(n_{0},v_{0},T_{0} \) upon \(n,v,T.\) The authors first prove the existence of a steady state solution \(n_{s}, v_{s}, T_{s}, F_{s}\) to the system under consideration. The main result of the paper is the proof of the existence and uniqueness of a solution \(n,v,T,F\) satisfying \[ (n-n_{s}), (v-v_{s}) \in C \left( [0,\infty); H^{2}(\mathbb{R})\right) \cap L^{2}\left( 0,\infty;H^{2}(\mathbb{R})\right), \] \[ (T-T_{s}),(F-F_{s}) \in C \left( [0,\infty); H^{3}(\mathbb{R})\right) \cap L^{2} \left( 0,\infty;H^{3}(\mathbb{R})\right), \] provided the differences \(n_{0}-n_{s},v_{0}-v_{s},T_{0}-T_{s}\) are sufficiently small. This result is completed by a result on the non-stability of \(n_{s},v_{s},T_{s},F_{s}\).
