Let \((X,d,\mu)\) be a space of homogeneous type and \(1<p<\infty\). A non-negative measurable function \(w\) defined on \(X\) is said to be a Muckenhoupt \(A_{p}\) weight, briefly \(w\in A_{p}(X,d,\mu)\), if the inequality \[ \Big(\int_{B(x,r)}w\,d\mu\Big)\,\Big(\int_{B(x,r)}w^{-\frac{1}{p-1}}\,d\mu\Big)^{p-1}\leq C\,\mu\big(B(x,\,r)\big)^{p} \] holds for some constant \(C\) and every ball \(B(x,\,r)\), \(x\in X\), \(r>0\). The main result of the paper is the following. Let \(1<p<\infty\). Let \(w_{i}\in A_{p}(X_{i},d,\mu^{\gamma_{i}})\), \(i=1,2\). Define \(w\) on \(X\) by \(w(x)=w_{i}(x)\) for \(x\in X_{i}\), \(w(x_{0})=0\). Then \(w\in A_{p}(X,d,\mu^{\gamma_{1},\,\gamma_{2}})\) if and only if there exist positive finite constants \(c_{1}\) and \(c_{2}\) such that \[ c_{1}\leq \frac{\int_{B(x_{0},r)\cap X_{1}}w_{1}(y)\,d\mu^{\gamma_{1}} (y)}{\int_{B(x_{0},r)\cap X_{2}}w_{2}(y)\,d\mu^{\gamma_{2}}(y)}\leq c_{2}. \]
