    The authors consider the numerical solution of a weakly singular second kind Fredholm integral equation which appears in astrophysics by a piecewise constant Galerkin method. They prove convergence in \(L^1\) and develop an iterative refinement method to deal with a large number of unknowns. A parallel implementation of the algorithm and the results of numerical test are discussed.
