The author proves a local (in time) existence theorem assuming certain, natural compatibility conditions hold and also a global uniqueness theorem for a general nonlinear, second-order, parabolic equation satisfying general, nonlinear boundary conditions. The hypotheses and proofs in the paper are quite technical and a priori estimates play a large role; nevertheless, the approach is natural. The final section is devoted to a discussion of the situation with systems.
