In this article, the author defines a notion of congruence in topological spaces and gives topological versions of the three isomorphism theorems of algebra. He also defines Hoehnke radicals of a class of topological spaces in terms of congruences, in a way which is analogous to the corresponding notion in Hoehnke's radical theory for universal algebras [\textit{H. Hoehnke}, Math. Nachr. 32, 347--383 (1966; Zbl 0149.02003)]. Then, he shows how this is related to the theory of connectednesses and disconnectednesses of topological spaces [\textit{A. Arkhangel'skij} and \textit{R. Wiegandt}, General Topology Appl. 5, 9--33 (1975; Zbl 0329.54008)], which has also a corresponding version in graph theory [\textit{E. Fried} and \textit{R. Wiegandt}, Algebra Univers. 5, 411--428 (1975; Zbl 0336.08002)].
