Clenshaw's method is a technique for expanding the solution of linear ordinary differential equations as a Chebyshev series. As such, its main application is to construct approximations to hypergeometric and similar functions: see for instance the books by \textit{Y. Luke} [The special functions and their applications (1969; Zbl 0193.017)]. In this paper, Faber methods are used to transform the problem to the expansion of the solution of a related differential equation in a Laurent series on a circular annulus, thus avoiding the necessity to use Chebyshev polynomial multiplication formulae, etc. Moreover, the method can be generalised to produce Faber expansions on other regions of the complex plane besides the interval. An example involving a Bessel function is treated in detail for both the cases of the interval and sectors of circles. In the final section, the method is used to generalise the well-known expression relating Chebyshev polynomials and their derivatives to the Faber polynomial case.
