The loop Virasoro algebra is the Lie algebra obtained by tensoring the classical Virasoro algebra with a Laurent polynomial ring in one variable. This algebra is naturally \(\mathbb{Z}^2\)-graded leading to many non-equivalent choices for a triangular decomposition. The present paper studies Whittaker modules for some choices of triangular decomposition. A Whittaker module is a module on which the action of the positive part of a triangular decomposition is locally finite. The paper provides the construction of universal Whittaker modules and describes its simple quotients (under some non-degeneracy assumptions).
