The paper deals with non-selfadjoint eigenvalue problems of the form \[ \begin{aligned} \ell(y,\lambda) & \equiv\sum_{j=1}^ n \left[\sum_{k=0}^ j p_{kj}(z)y^{(b)}\right]\lambda^{n-j}+\lambda^ n ty=0,\quad y\in[0,1],\\ U_ \nu(y) & =0,\quad 1\leq\nu\leq n,\end{aligned} \] with two- point boundary conditions. Such a problem is (Stone) regular if for \(\delta>0\) there are constants \(p\) and \(c(\delta)>0\) such that the Green's function \(G\) is defined for \(\lambda\in\sigma\), the set of eigenvalues, and \(| G(x,\zeta,\lambda)|\leq c(\delta)|\lambda|^ p\) for \(\hbox{dist}(\lambda,\sigma)\geq\delta\); otherwise the problem is irregular. For regular problems many results are known concerning expansions of given functions in terms of the eigenfunctions and associated functions. It is the irregular problem which is discussed here. In previous articles the second author has derived necessary conditions for the \(L_ 2\)-convergence and Abel-summability of eigenfunction expansions for irregular problems. This work is continued in the present paper and extensions are obtained to results on pointwise convergence in the special case \(\ell(y,\lambda)=y^{(n)}+\sum_{\nu=2}^ n f_ \nu(z)y^{(n-\nu)} - \lambda y\). Sufficient conditions for convergence in such problems are known; see the paper for references.
