Let \(G\) be a primitive group and \(\mathcal H\) the class of all those groups that have no \(G\) among their epimorphic images. Let \(X\) be a primitive group satisfying ``if \(H\) is an \(\mathcal H\)-covering subgroup of \(X\), there exists a proper subgroup \(M\) of \(X\) such that \(H\leq M\) and \(NM = X\) for every \(N \triangleleft X\).'' We prove that then \(X = G\). This result about primitive groups is applied to characterize the maximal elements in the ordering relation ``strong containment'' that we define for Schunck classes.
