This paper concerns a conjecture by \textit{J. Palis} and \textit{F. Takens} [Hyperbolicity and sensitive chaotic dynamics at homoclinic bifurcations. Fractal dimensions and infinitely many attractors. Cambridge Studies in Advanced Mathematics. 35. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press (1993; Zbl 0790.58014)]: For two Cantor sets \(C_1\) and \(C_2\), if \(\dim_H C_1 + \dim_H C_2 > 1\), then generically, it should be true that \(C_2 - C_1 = \{y-x: x\in C_1, y\in C_2\}\) contains an interval. Larsson in his thesis considered a two-parameter family of random Cantor sets \(C_{a,b}\) and claimed to prove that the conjecture holds for all relevant choices of the parameters \(a\) and \(b\). In the present paper, the authors point out that there was an error in Larsson's paper and gave a correct proof to it.
