The author treats a nonlinear hyperbolic equation as follows: \[ \partial^ 2 u/\partial x\partial y+g(x,y)f(u(x,y))=0\quad in\quad \{(x,y)\in {\mathbb{R}}^ 2;\quad x>0,\quad y>0\} \] with the boundary conditions \(u(x,0)=\phi (x)\) and \(u(0,y)=\psi (x)\). This problem is already solved by \textit{W. T. Hsiang} and \textit{M. K. Kwong} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 85, 31-45 (1982; Zbl 0501.35057)]. The aim of this note is to show that it is also solved by the author's decomposition method [''Stochastic systems'' (1983; Zbl 0523.60056)] and ''Nonlinear Stochastic Operator Equations'', Academic Press (1986)].
