A two-server system with first-come first-served discipline and a threshold for switching on and off a second server is searched by birth- death processes with state-dependent down rates. Laplace transforms and generating function methods are used to get an explicit expression of the equilibrium density of the waiting and sojourn times of a tagged customer. By noting that the distributions of these random variables differ in single-server and two-server systems, the comparison to the corresponding single-server system [see the author, ibid. 4, No.3, 213- 235 (1989; Zbl 0671.60089)] is performed.
