This paper gives explicit constructions of new Calabi-Yau threefolds with small Picard number. For example, the authors get \(68\) new topological types with Picard number \(1\). Furthermore, the authors propose a construction of their mirror manifolds using smoothings of toric hypersurfaces with conifold singularities. They also show that the new examples are connected to known ones via conifold transitions.
