We consider the holomorphic \(\mathbb{C}\)-actions on \(\mathbb{C}^N=\mathbb{C}^m \times \mathbb{C}^n\) induced by holomorphic vector fields on \(\mathbb{C}^N\) of Poincaré type. Under a mild hyperbolicity condition the actions are shown to be proper on \(V^{m,n}:=(\mathbb{C}^m-\{0\})\times (\mathbb{C}^n -\{0\})\), and therefore they induce complex structures on the orbit space \(V^{m,n}/\mathbb{C}\cong S^{2m-1} \times S^{2n-1}\). This provides a general method for constructing complex structures on products of odd dimensional spheres. Elliptic curves, Hopf manifolds and Calabi-Eckmann manifolds are obtained as particular cases. The construction enables us to give a quite precise description of the geometric properties of these complex manifolds like Dolbeault cohomology, versal deformation spaces, line bundles and analytic subspaces.
