The authors recall a generalization of the sampling theorem for multi-band signals from \textit{M. M. Dodson} and \textit{A. M. Silva} [Proc. R. Ir. Acad., Sect. A 85, 81-108 (1985; Zbl 0583.42003)]. They prove error estimates for the signal approximately reconstructed by the `sample and hold' technique. Further they give an example how their results may be applied in speech compression.
