This paper deals with \textit{R. Greenberg}'s conjecture [Am. J. Math. 98, 263-284 (1976; Zbl 0334.12013)] about vanishing of the Iwasawa invariants \(\lambda_ p (k)\) and \(\mu_ p(k)\) for a totally real field \(k\) and a prime \(p\) (the cyclotomic \(\mathbb{Z}_ p\)-extension of \(k\) for \(p\) is considered). For some real quadratic fields this conjecture was studied by T. Fukuda and K. Komatsu particularly in [J. Math. Soc. Japan 38, 95- 102 (1986; Zbl 0588.12004)]. The author continues these investigations and gives in Theorem 2 some sufficient conditions for \(\lambda_ p(k) = \mu_ p(k) = 0\). The author also states that for a prime \(p\) there exists a number field \(k\) with arbitrarily large \(\lambda_ p(k)\).
