The asymptotics for the occurrence time of rare events in infinite spin systems is studied. The main assumption is that the system has invariant measure satisfying the logarithmic Sobolev inequality. With the help of the Freidlin and Wentzell theory, the typical path close to the occurrence time is also described. In the independent case, the resulting estimates are sharp.
