The author presents a number of innovations that make the basic hybrid code suitable for the simulation of the Earth's magnetosphere and its surroundings in a global manner. The developed code describes the formation of fast and slow mode shocks. New results include particle acceleration in the cusp and nearby field aligned currents linking the cusp and polar ionosphere. The paper also describes the density depletion instability and how to avoid it.
