Let \(I^ d=(-\pi,\pi)^ d\), the Paley-Wiener space \(PW(I^ d)\) on \(I^ d\) is defined to be the image of \(L^ 2(I^ d)\) under the inverse Fourier transform \(f\to \check f\). The paper deals with Hankel operators on \(PW(I^ d)\) given by \[ T_ b(f){\hat{\;}}(\xi)=\int_{{\mathbb{R}}^ d}\hat b(\xi -\eta)\psi_{I^ d}(\xi)\psi_{I^ d}(\eta)\hat f(\eta)d\eta, \] where {\^{\ }}: \(f\to \hat f\) is the Fourier transform. This general Hankel operator turns out to be a paracommutator with symbol b, Fourier kernel \(\psi_{I^ d}(\xi)\psi_{I^ d}(\eta)\) and index \(s=t=0\), accordng to the terminology due to Janson and Peetre. The main result of the paper gives a necessary and sufficient condition for \(T_ b\) to be in \({\mathcal C}_ p\) (the Schatten-von Neumann class), for any \(p>0\). For expressing this condition the Besov space of Paley-Wiener type is introduced. The proof depends on some recent result of Janson and Peetre on paracommutators.
