New explicit formulae are obtained using finite difference approximation for the diffusion-convection equation. They are found to be both very easy and economical to implement. In this class of methods, approximations to \(\delta\) u/\(\delta\) y is made by both forward and backward difference at different time levels. Theoretical aspects of the stability, consistency, convergence and truncation errors of this class of methods are briefly discussed along with one numerical example.
