    The authors consider plane curves \(y(t)= x(t)+ r(t) n(t)\) where \(n\) is the (left-handed) unit normal to \(x\). These curves are useful to model brush strokes. They give the formulas for Bézier approximations of the curves, controlled by the endpoints and the tangent directions at these endpoints. The control of these tangent directions introduces two additional parameters that can be used to vary the shapes of the resulting approximations. This gives two parameters with which to control a field of cubic Bézier approximations to these offset curves.
