In this well-written paper the author uses uniform bounded representations of semisimple Lie groups introduced by \textit{R. A. Kunze} and \textit{E. M. Stein} [Am. J. Math. 82, 1--62 (1960; Zbl 0156.37104); ibid. 89, 385--442 (1967; Zbl 0195.14202)] to approach the identity representation for groups like \(Sp(n,1)\) having Kazhdan's property \(T\). In [Harmonic analysis and group representations, Liguori, Naples, pp. 49--128 (1982); Topics in modern harmonic analysis, vol. I, Roma, pp. 81--123 (1983; Zbl 0541.22005)] \textit{M. G. Cowling} showed that it is possible to approach the identity representation by using uniformly bounded representations in Hilbert space. The Hilbert space structure was given by convolution with a negative power of the Laplacian and the associated constants go to infinity as one approaches the identity. Subsequently \textit{M. G. Cowling} and \textit{U. Haagerup} [Invent. Math. 96, 507--549 (1989; Zbl 0681.43012)] showed how to bound the norms \(M_0A(V)\) of the space of completely bounded multipliers of \(A(V)\). In this process they showed that the limits of the norms gave interesting constants for the groups \(SO(n,1)\), \(SU(n,1)\), \(SP(n,1)\) and \(F_4,-20\). The author extends the results of Cowling and Haagerup and shows how to define uniform bounded norms which are bounded on approach to the identity representation and which also yields the Cowling-Haagerup limits. This work may contribute positively to the program of \textit{P. Julg} [C. R., Math., Acad. Sci. Paris 334, 533--538 (2002; Zbl 1004.19003)] in establishing the Baum-Connes conjecture on \(Sp(n,1)\) using uniformly bounded representations.
