The paper deals with the Lindelöf property in the class of spaces \(C_ p(X)\) of all real-valued continuous functions equipped with the topology of point convergence. In the first part it is shown that if X is the space with exactly one non-isolated point, then the space \(C_ p(X)\) is Lindelöf iff X is Lindelöf and for every \(n<\omega\), tightness of the product X n is countable. In the second part the authors proved that it is consistent with ZFC\(+CH\) (as well as with ZFC\(+\neg CH\)) that there exist spaces \(X_ 1\) and \(X_ 2\) with exactly one point which is not isolated such that both \(C_ p(X_ 1)\) and \(C_ p(X_ 2)\) are Lindelöf but the product \(C_ p(X_ 1)\times C_ p(X_ 2)\) is not. There is also answered in negative the question of \textit{N. N. Yakovlev} [Comment. Math. Univ. Carol. 25, 29-53 (1984; Zbl 0561.54008)] of whether the product \(\pi \{X_ n:\) \(n<\omega \}\) is Lindelöf whenever for every n, \(X_ n\) is a Lindelöf subspace of a \(\Sigma\)-product with a countable base.
