Let \(X\) be a normed linear space and \(V\) a nonempty subset of \(X\). For a bounded subset \(F\) of \(X\), let \(r(F,x) := \sup\{\| x-y\|; \;y\in F\}\) denote the radius of the smallest closed ball centered at covering \(F\) and let \(\operatorname{rad}_v(F):=\inf\{r(F,x); \;x\in V\}\), \(\operatorname{Cent}_v(F):=\{v_0\in V; r(F,v_0)=\operatorname{rad}_v(F)\}\). The number \(\operatorname{rad}_V(F)\) is called the Chebyshev radius of \(F\) in \(V\) and an element \(v_0\in \operatorname{Cent}_v(F)\) is called a restricted center (or a best simultaneous approximation) of \(F\) in \(V\). The study of these notions, initiated by \textit{A. L. Garkavi} [Am. Math. Soc., Transl., II. Ser. 39, 111--132 (1964; Zbl 0158.13602); translation from Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Ser. Mat. 26, 87--106 (1962; Zbl 0108.10801)], has attracted much attention in consequence of their multiple application. In particular, about application in information theory see the book: \textit{J. F. Traub}, \textit{H. Wozniakowski}, \textit{G. W. Wasilkowski} [Information-based complexity. Boston, MA: Academic Press (1988; Zbl 0654.94004)]. For a recent survey of results in this direction see: \textit{D. Amir} [Parametric optimization and approximation, Conf. Oberwolfach 1983, ISNM 72, 19--35 (1985; Zbl 0563.41021)]. In this paper restricted centers of sets of continuous (and (or) bounded) vector-valued functions defined on a topological space \(T\) are investigated. The extensions of several known proximality results, as well as some new results on continuous selection of restricted center maps are also obtained.
