Linear, finite-dimensional, continuous-time switched hybrid control systems are considered. Using geometrical and algebraic methods, several controllability criteria are formulated and proved. In the proofs of the main results, the controllability matrix is extensively used. Moreover, simple illustrative numerical examples are presented. The results given in the paper extend controllability conditions given for switched control systems in the paper [\textit{Zhendong Sun}, \textit{S. S. Ge} and \textit{T. H. Lee}, Controllability and reachability criteria for switched linear systems, Automatica 38, 775-786 (2002; Zbl 1031.93041)] to hybrid control systems. The relationships to other results given in the literature are also pointed out and discussed.
