Let \(H\) be an infinite-dimensional separable Hilbert space and \(A\) be an unbounded operator on \(H\). Suppose that \(\{e_n\}_{n=1}^\infty\) is an orthonormal basis for \(H\) contained in \(D(A)\), the domain of \(A\). Let \(P_n\) be the projection with the range \(H_n=\text{span}\{e_1,\dots,e_n\}\), and \(A_n=P_nAP_n\), \(n=1,2,\dots\). The sequence of operators \(\{A_n\}_{n=1}^\infty\) is said to be the finite section method for \(A\). In this paper, the author shows that for an unbounded selfadjoint operator \(A\) on \(H\), \(\{A_n\}_{n=1}^\infty\) converges to \(A\) in some sense.
