The main result of the authors concerns a family of connected subsets of the product of the set \(\mathbb{R}\) of reals with a metric space satisfying two properties, and it is shown that there exists a connected component contained in the upper limit of the family satisfying a property similar to one of the assumed properties. Then this result is used to show how the closed interval \([-1,1]\) can be replaced by \(\mathbb{R}\) in a theorem of \textit{F. Browder} [Summa Brasil Math. 4, 183-190 (1960; Zbl 0102.37807)]. The results are too technical to be quoted here.
