The authors study two properties of local cohomology modules of Noetherian graded rings. Let \(R_0\) be a Noetherian ring, \(X_1\), \dots, \(X_s\) indeterminates of degree~\(1\) and \(I \subset R_0[X_1, \dots, X_s]\) a homogeneous ideal. The authors consider the local cohomology modules of \(R = R_0[X_1, \dots, X_n]/I\) with respect to the irrelevant ideal~\(R_+\). If \(R_0\) is not Artinian, then the homogeneous components \([H_{R_+}^s(R)]_{-n}\) can be zero for all sufficiently large \(n\). The authors give a condition for \([H_{R_+}^s(R)]_{-n}\) to be zero by using the coefficients of the generators of~\(I\). Next they investigate the length of \([H_{R_+}^s(R)]_{-n}\). If \(R_0\) is Artinian, then it is known that \(\ell([H_{R_+}^s(R)]_{-n})\) is a polynomial of~\(n\) for sufficiently large~\(n\). This fact is not necessarily true if \(R_0\) is not Artinian. The authors give two counterexamples.
