The author studies boundary value problems for the one-dimensional system of Ginzburg-Landau equations modeling a thin film of superconductor subjected to a tangential magnetic field. The existence of a critical magnetic field is proved, i.e. the BVP admits only nontrivial solutions. In the case of the symmetric BVP it is shown that the bifurcation curve is the graph of a continuous function. In addition, uniqueness for a related problem is established.
