Given a map $f:X \to Y$ let $G^f(Y,f(x_0))\subset \pi_1(Y, f(x_0))\approx \mathcal{D}(Y)$ denote the generalized Gottlieb group with respect to the map $f$, where $\mathcal{D}(Y)$ is the group of deck transformations of the universal covering of $Y$. Denote by $\mathcal{D}^{\tilde f_0}(Y)$ the set of all elements $h\in \mathcal{D}(Y)$ such that $\tilde f_0\simeq_{\tilde H}h\tilde f_0$, where $\tilde X\times I\to \tilde Y$ is a fiber-preserving homotopy with respect to the universal covering maps $p:\tilde X\to X$ and $q:\tilde Y \to Y$. The main result of this work is to show: \par Theorem. Given $f: X\to Y$, the canonical isomorphism $\pi_1(Y, f(x_0)) \stackrel{\approx} \to \mathcal{D}(Y)$ restricts to an isomorphism \[ G^f(Y, f_0(x_0) \stackrel{\approx}\to \mathcal{D}^{\tilde f_0}(Y). \] \par The authors also discuss the relation between these groups and the Whitehead center group.
