The author develops a method for computing the zeros of \(L\)-functions meromorphic in the complex plane and satisfying a functional equation of the usual form. He applies his method, and computes with high precision many of the zeros of the \(L\)-functions attached to the symmetric tensor products of representations of \(GL(2)\), and to modular forms of half-integer weight, as well as of Hecke \(L\)-functions with a grossencharacter of infinite order in a real quadratic field, and of some nonabelian Artin \(L\)-functions. In the conclusion, the author states two conjectures suggested by his computations to the effect that, under certain conditions, the \(L\)-functions of two different simple motives have no common zeros in the critical strip.
