Design considerations for \((p, p- 1)\) pairs of explicit parallel Runge-Kutta methods with \(p\) the order of the solution and \(p- 1\) the order of the error estimator. The objective is to use as few as possible processors with high efficiency. Pairs with \(p= 5\) and 2 processors and with \(p= 7\) and 3 processors are designed and tested.
