Special kinds of finite-dimensional, discrete-time, and time-invariant control systems are considered. Using methods of Lie algebras and matrix theory, sufficient conditions for global controllability in finite time are formulated and proved. Similar controllability problems for continuous-time bilinear control systems have been studied in the paper [\textit{V. Jurdjevic} and \textit{I. Kupka}, J. Differ. Equations 39, 186-211 (1981; Zbl 0531.93008)]. The paper contains also several remarks and comments on the applications of differential geometry in nonlinear control theory. The relationships between the controllability problems for discrete-time and continuous-time bilinear dynamical systems are explained and discussed.
