In the paper a modified \(J_ 2\)-flow is proposed which mimics via a nonassociative rate independent flow rule the effects induced by the presence of a corner at the loading point on the yield surface. An isotropic/kinematic hardening is considered while the nonassociative part of the plastic strain rate is a nonlinear rate-independent function of the total strain rate. This results in a nonlinear dependence of the stress rate on the total strain rate. Computationally, the proposed approach results in a simple modification of the classical radial return algorithm; hence it is well suited for large-scale inelastic calculations.
