The author characterizes the 3-element unary algebras which have a finite basis of quasi-identities. This is done by exhibiting three forbidden reducts, one of them discovered by \textit{V. A. Gorbunov} [Algebra Logika 16, 507-548 (1977; Zbl 0403.08009)]. For larger finite unary algebras, one necessary and two sufficient conditions are formulated.
