The physical problem of the title is described/derived in more detail than previously done. The mathematics of the problem leads to an eigenvalue problem for a homogeneous Fredholm integral equation of the second kind, which is replaced by algebraic eigenvalue problems. This replacement is carried out by a degenerate kernel approximation or by using Nyström's method with Simpson's rule. For several examples the numerical results arising from these routines compare well with other published results. Appendix A extends the validity of a formula involving integrals of products of Bessel functions. For the computation of \(J_0(x)\) program packages are not used. For the imaginary unit is used both \(i\) and \(j\). Formula (A.2) and (A.6) and the references [6] and [12] contain misprints.
